The low buoyancy material mean they will act like a low lying wafter on their own but with them being partially hollowed out it gives you extra options to balance or add some extra attraction.
 
Be it securing your hair within the cavity, leaving you space to fill it with a matching boilie paste, spam or even other trimmed down hook baits. Alternatively for a highly buoyant option, you can plug it with a trimmed piece of 8mm cork for when fishing it more of a pop up style
